An advantage of MIS is that a smaller incision is typically used, thus reducing the trauma and faster recovery for the patient, and there are often fewer complications due to reduced tissue manipulation.
In order to reduce the likelihood of surgical complications, minimally invasive surgical procedures are typically performed in a sterile environment. In order to provide a sterile environment for the surgical procedure, disposable sterile barriers are used, such as drapes and drape coverings.Four people were shot — including a pregnant woman, the woman's husband and their son — in a suburban north Baltimore row house Thursday, police said.
The woman's husband was standing in the front doorway of their home on the 600 block of Pineview Avenue when two suspects walked up and started shooting at 3:46 p.m., Baltimore County police said.
The woman was shot in the neck, and her husband was struck multiple times in the torso, police said. Their son, who was 5 years old, was struck in the hand, police said.
The woman was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The father was taken to Shock Trauma with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, police said.
Two suspects remained on the loose Thursday night.
On Thursday, a woman, who said she was the daughter of the family, said she was "very traumatized" by what had happened and that the family has not been able to move into their home yet.
The couple had a baby girl on Aug. 30. Police said the child was uninjured.
"My mom is six months pregnant and she was shot," the woman said. "She’s been in the hospital for almost two weeks now."
John Rose, who lives next door to the house, said he heard the shots.
"I heard a few shots and then when I ran back, it was dark and I just saw a lot of blood in the doorway," he said. "They were obviously very concerned that someone had actually been shot inside the house and their child had been shot."
